Day of State Independence of the Kazakhstan Republic is the main state holiday which is celebrated on the 16th of December annually. In honor of the National Holyday this day is declared a day-off in the Republic.
On the 16th of December, 1991 the Supreme Soviet adopted a law concerning the independence and state sovereignty of Kazakhstan. It was the last republic among all republics of the former Soviet Union what adopted independence.
Being the leader of the Central Asia region, Kazakhstan develops intensively in the recent years. It gained notable successes in the economy because of restructuring of all economic system, which had been basing primarily on mining industries during the Soviet period.
In addition to some economic reforms in the independent Kazakhstan were held political reforms, which increased significantly the credibility of the republic on the international scene. Kazakhstan is a member of international and regional organizations known as a reliable partner both of western and eastern states.
On the day of the holiday there are mass celebrations throughout the country. In anticipation of the holiday also awarded some persons who are outstanding in culture and arts, sports, politics and other spheres. It is conducted "Holiday Amnesty".
Holiday concerts are held in all cities and villages. Evening sky is lit up by fireworks and salutes.
