Turkmenistan Intends To Develop The Gas And Chemical Industry

Over the next ten years, Turkmenistan plans to intensify the development of the gas chemical industry. Deputy Prime Minister for the Fuel and Energy Complex Maksat Babayev made such a statement during the presentation of a number of specific projects to the government members. In particular, there will be reconstructed the natural gas processing plant and the facility for production of liquefied gas located at the Bagadzha deposit (Lebap Province). Then there will be built a gas chemical complex with an annual capacity of 45,000 tons of polystyrene and 80,000 tons of butadiene-styrene rubber.


At the Tireshy deposit (Takhtabazar District, Mary Province), plans are afoot to build a plant for production of liquefied gas with an annual capacity of 13,000 tons.


Plans are afoot to implement another major investment project in Dashoguz Province, at the Central Karakum fields located in the vicinity of the Yilanly gas compressor station. It envisages construction of a plant that will annually process 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas and produce up to 70,000 tons of liquefied gas. The second-phase construction of the facilities of this plant will allow to establish production of 200,000 tons of low-density polyethylene per year.


A new gas chemical complex will also be built in the village of Kiyanly (Balkan Province). It will annually produce 390,000 tons of polypropylene, 200,000 tons of linear low density polyethylene, 100,000 tons of polyvinyl chloride, 82,000 tons of caustic soda, 10,000 tons of liquefied gas and 10,000 tons of hydrochloric acid. The complex will process up to one and a half billion cubic meters of natural gas, as well as 117,000 tons of technical salt.
