International Fund For Saving The Aral Sea Develops A Program Of Assistance To The Region

Turkmenistan and other participants of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) intend to develop a program of assistance to the countries situated in the Aral Sea region. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made such a statement during a meeting with the participants of the Ashgabat-based conference “The role of IFAS in the development of cooperation in the Central Asian region.” According to the message of the head of the Turkmen state, the main goal of Turkmenistan's chairmanship in the Fund for Saving the Aral Sea is to improve the ecological and socio-economic situation in the Aral Sea countries, to ensure rational use of available water resources in the region and to achieve a high level of environmental protection.


“As the state presiding in the IFAS, Turkmenistan will make maximum efforts to ensure a steady and comprehensive increase of the international authority of this Fund. Turkmenistan will also take all necessary measures to strengthen its importance in terms of combating global natural disasters,” Berdumuhamedov emphasized.


The program also includes conducting multidisciplinary training seminars and conferences on the development of water diplomacy among the countries of the Central Asian region. Particular importance will be attached to the organizational, political and legal components of this program.


As reported previously, the British organization “The Eco Experts” determined the level of toxicity for the countries of Central Asia. As a result, the most clean country in the region is Kyrgyzstan, followed by Tajikistan, followed by Uzbekistan. And the most toxic states of the Central Asian region are Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, which entered the top 10 on the seventh and ninth positions.
