Tajikistan and Armenia intend to create a working group to study the trade potential of the two countries, which will help expand mutual trade. Minister of Investments and Economic Development of Armenia Suren Karayan announced this news on the sidelines of the meeting of the Armenian-Tajik intergovernmental commission. According to him, it is also planned to create a number of distribution companies that will organize the import and export of products, and establish industrial cooperation in the light industry and the jewelry field.

“We have discussed the practical steps aimed at expanding the Armenian-Tajik annual commodity turnover, which currently amounts to about $350,000. We intend to create a small working group tasked to define commodity groups that have the maximum export potential in the two countries. The group will try to remove all obstacles on the way of bilateral supplies,” said Karayan, the head of the Armenian side of the intergovernmental commission.

The Tajik side has expressed interest in cooperation in tourism and information technology. “In addition, representatives of Tajikistan will consider the possibility of supplying Armenia with raw materials for the manufacture of various kinds of jewelry, and the return import of finished goods to Tajikistan,” S. Karayan said. According to him, within the framework of the upcoming visit of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon to Armenia, an Armenian-Tajik business forum will be held. During the event, entrepreneurs of the two countries will have an opportunity to discuss the cooperation possibilities.

Minister of Trade and Economic Development of Tajikistan Hikmatullozoda Nematullo also announced his readiness to exert maximum efforts to further expand the bilateral trade and economic cooperation. “The current level of trade turnover does not correspond to the real opportunities of our countries, so we intend to build up the potential of mutual trade in the future,” he stressed.
