In Kyrgyzstan, the employees of the State Customs Service of the Republic jointly with the State Service on Drug Control suppressed an attempt of exporting a large batch of drugs (heroin) to the Russian Federation. The press office of the agency reported the news, adding that an organized criminal group specializing in smuggling of Afghan drugs was detained during the operation. “Drugs were transitted through the territory of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation,” the press release reads.

During the inspection, customs officers detected and seized about 12 kilograms of heroin. “According to experts, the market value of the seized drugs batch is about KGS15 million or $200,000 dollars,” the release of the press office reads.

According to the detainees, they intended to smuggle drugs through the checkpoint “Ak-Zhol” located on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border, planning to subsequently deliver them to customers in the Russian Federation. The police has initiated a criminal proceeding, and work is currently underway to “hold criminally liable all other members of the drug community who were involved in the crime.”

“This has been the fifth seizure of large amounts of drugs from illegal turnover since the beginning of 2016. This was the result of a highly efficient and close cooperation between the State Customs Service and the State Service on Drug Control,” the message reads.

According to official data, last year, a total of about 25 tons of various narcotic substances were seized during illicit trafficking in the territory of Kyrgyzstan. One of the world's largest drug trafficking routes – the Northern Way goes through the republic.
