Sunday, July 2, 2017 - 10:45

President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev appealed to foreign investors with a proposal to consider the possibilities of investing in the exploration of lithium reserves in the territory of the republic and subsequent organization of its extraction. He voiced this while delivering a speech at the 30th regular plenary meeting of the Council of Foreign Investors. “Today, the world is actively developing technologies that use rare earth metals. As follows from the experts' assessment,, by 2025 the demand for lithium can grow threefold, or up to 550,000 tons per year. In Kazakhstan, large reserves of various rare earth metals, including lithium, have been discovered. I suggest that investors together with our government should consider this sector in terms of investment,” Nazarbayev said.

According to him, Kazakhstan is working to change and improve the business climate, which is reflected in the reduction of administrative barriers and investment risks, as well as in the increase of the expenditures on renewable energy projects.

“The 29th meeting set the task of developing the green finance. Now, work is underway to draw up a concept for development of a “green” financial system in the country. I suggest you take part in the development of this concept and invite you to introduce green financial products and services,” the president said.

To this end, it will be possible to use the platform of the international financial center “Astana,” which is being created on the basis of the EXPO 7 exhibition complex. According to the head of state, it is necessary to develop Kazakhstan's scientific and technical potential, to create conditions for applied and fundamental scientific research, to train specialists in the field of new energy.
