2016 Statistics Of Emergency Situations In Kazakhstan

Friday, June 30, 2017 - 19:50

In 2016, Kazakhstan registered a total of 16,823 emergency cases. More than 1,600 people were injured, and the number of victims was 3,691 people. Speaker of the upper house of the parliament Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev voiced this information on June 21. He delivered his speech to the deputies during the parliamentary hearings on the development of civil protection in Kazakhstan.

“We lose a lot of people in such situations. In 2016 alone, more than 1600 people were killed in Kazakhstan. It is worth noting, though, civil protection workers manage to save tens of thousands of people. That is why counteracting to man-made and natural disasters is an important strategic part of the state policy of Kazakhstan,” Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev stressed.

According to him, it is necessary to revise the planning approaches related to the preparation to and struggle against the consequences of natural disasters, paying more attention to the analysis of the existing problems, forecasting the development of situations and solving the problems in a comprehensive manner.

“The government and local authorities should provide for the allocation of budget funds for the prevention of emergencies, and for the elimination of their consequences in cases of force majeure. Such an important sector as civil protection generally requires a proper level of budgetary financing. It is necessary to create a effective logistics system and have a range of resources in the state reserve in order to be able to respond to an emergency in a timely manner,” Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev said.

He also promised all possible assistance to the upper house of parliament in the preservation of the level of budgetary financing to the Ministry of the Interior and its specific subdivisions.
