As a result of the massacre organized in the Kazakh city of Aktobe on June 5, a total of 17 people were killed, three of whom were soldiers, according to the official information of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic. Among other victims: an employee of the “Pallada” store, an employee of “Zhedel Kuzet,” and a visitor of another store. In addition, 11 terrorists were killed as a result of anti-terrorist operation. Also, 22 people were injured.



Today, Uzbekistan's army is one of the strongest armies in the region of Central Asia. However, according to military experts, it is in need of rearmament in order to be able to meet the challenges of the time, including effective counteraction to the possible penetration of armed groups from neighboring Afghanistan into the territory of the republic.


On April 18, in several regions of Kazakhstan, there were launched large-scale military exercises organized in accordance with the order of Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the Republic Nursultan Nazarbayev. According to the press service of the Ministry of National Defense, the exercises will be held in the period April 18-24, in the territories of Atyrau, Kyzylorda, Mangystau and South Kazakhstan provinces.



For the second time during the year, Tajikistan has launched counter-terrorism exercises in its territory with participation of the CSTO countries. According to the media, the exercises involve about 1,500 soldiers representing the command staff and special units of military, air, electronic and other types of intelligence. “I hope the current exercises will be successful.


Kazakhstan has launched the two-stage command and staff exercises, which will be held at a military base located near Astana. They involve forces, equipment and vehicles of a number of national security ministries and agencies, as reported by the press service of the Defense Ministry. On February 22, Kazakhstan launched a major command and staff tactical exercises of the Armed Forces of the Republic under the title “Aybalta 2016,” in accordance with the order of Supreme Commander Nursultan Nazarbayev. According to the press service of the Ministry of National Defense, the exercises are primarily aimed at practicing the actions of troops in cases of localization of various crises.



During the next two years, the United States will allocate $50 million to support the fight against terrorism in Central Asia, with most of these funds to go to Tajikistan. This is stated in the documents posted on the official website of the US military department (the Pentagon). “Within the program of support of the partners in the fight against terrorism in Central Asia, it is proposed to allocate financial resources to deal with the terrorist organization Islamic State and the Taliban, and to promote regional stability.


Plans are afoot in Kazakhstan to create a youth movement against extremism, which will engage activists from all regions of the country.
