The lower house of Kazakhstan's parliament (the Mazhilis) approved the creation of the Central Asian regional center on glacier research in the country. The draft law entitled “On Ratification of the Agreement between the Government of Kazakhstan and the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO) on establishment of the Central Asian regional glaciological center” was discussed by the MPs during a recent plenary session.


In the near future, Uzbekistan plans to develop a comprehensive program of re-equipment and rearmament of the armed forces in 2017-2021. President Shavkat Mirziyoev made this statement in his festive address dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Armed Forces. “As a priority, we have to develop a comprehensive program for 2017-2021, which will provide for specific measures to modernize and repair the equipment, and to acquire various types of new military products,” Mirziyoev said.



In 2018, the holding company “Helicopters of Russia” (which is a part of the “Rostech”) will deliver four transport-combat helicopters “Mi-35M” to the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan in accordance with the signed contract. The document stipulates, in particular, that the aircraft should be paid for in Russian rubles.


The Air Forces of Kazakhstan have replenished their arsenal with new modern multi-purpose fighters “Su-30SM” of Russian production. This occurred under the previous agreements reached between the leaders of the military departments of the two neighboring countries. The press service of the Kazakh Defense Ministry reported this news on December 27, stressing that the new machines are closely approximated to the fifth-generation aircraft in their tactical, technical and flight characteristics.
