The Institute of International Relations under the Turkmen Foreign Ministry and regional office of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Central Asia signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Ashgabat, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported on Friday.

This memorandum should strengthen cooperation which started in 2009 and anticipates a qualitatively new approach to the further development of ties on a bilateral and multilateral basis taking into consideration the curriculum of the Institute and national priorities.

Turkmenistan has sent humanitarian aid with textile products and flour for the population of the Turkish Van Province, who suffered from the recent devastating earthquake.

According to the Turkmen government, Turkish officials, who met the humanitarian aid convoy from Ashgabat at Erzurum Airport, expressed 'sincere gratitude to Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov and the Turkmen people for a goodwill gesture'.

A cargo plane with humanitarian aid from Israel arrived in Turkey today after a massive earthquake on Oct. 23, the Aksam newspaper said.

Besides food and medical supplies, five prefabricated houses were also delivered. The embassy spokesman Nizar Amir said that three more aircrafts with humanitarian supplies will arrive from Israel in the nearest future.

This morning, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Emergency Situations has sent another batch of aid to Turkish province of Van.

Israel said on Tuesday it was launching an airlift of supplies to help Turkey cope with a devastating earthquake, following a request from Ankara, with a first shipment of prefabricated homes destined for shipment on Wednesday Todayszaman reported

Israel's Foreign Ministry said Ankara had sought the aid via the Israeli embassy there, after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered assistance in a telephone call to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan after the quake struck on Sunday.

A delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) headed by regional representative Gulya Kadar is in Ashgabat.

The delegation has met with members of the parliament, ministries, departments, and representatives of the Turkmen Red Crescent Society.

The delegation discussed the working draft of the legislative document to provide a legal basis for international assistance in emergency situations.

Some 13 people have been infected with cholera in Iran, Disease Management Center Director Hossein Masoumi Asl was quoted as saying by iribnews.ir.

He said the necessary precautions are being taken, and in general, their condition is satisfactory.

He said the infection cases mainly revealed in the Iranian provinces of Sistan-Baluchistan, Shiraz, Ahvaz and Hormuzgan. Doctors took samples from relatives of ill-persons, but no infection was found.

The country has been recording cases of cholera infection for nearly 45 years, he said. The number of such cases was 15 in 2010.

Radioactive substances that leaked into the sea from a damaged Japanese nuclear power plant totalled an estimated 5,000 terabecquerels, 20,000 times more than the annual limit allowed for the plant, its operator, the Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO), said Thursday.

TEPCO said the radioactive substances were in an estimated 520 tons of high-level radioactive water that leaked into the sea from reactor number 2 of the six-reactor Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, which was damaged by a magnitude-9 earthquake and tsunami on March 11, DPA reported.

A strong fire took place in a hospital attached to the Uludag University in the city of Bursa, CNN Turk television channel reports.

No casualties were reported. Patients are being evacuated from the hospital. The fact is under investigation.

NASA reported that the Soyuz spacecraft made a safe landing in Kazakhstan on Thursday, the astronauts must be happy to be on Terra Firma after spending almost six months on the International Space Station. Russian Maxim Surayev and NASA astronaut Jeff Williams were on-board the Soyuz TMA-16 ca.

Once the spacecraft had landed in Arkalyk Russian Mi-8 helicopters circled above the LZ, which they then landed to help the astronauts out of the craft. According to the Las Vegas Sun, both Williams and Surayev were then taken to a medical tent that had been erected nearby.
