Destroying Syria's chemical weapons outside the country would be the best option, given its ongoing conflict, the head of the international watchdog overseeing the operation said Tuesday, dpa reported.

A Syrian proposal "that the destruction of chemical weapons be carried out outside of the country constitutes the most viable option," Ahmet Uzumcu, director general of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, told a meeting of the body's executive council.


Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Tuesday that Iran and China should plan to expand cooperation based on long-term goals, IRNA reported.

Larijani, who is on a visit to China, in a meeting with a senior member of China's State Council Yang Jiechi hailed economic relations between the two countries, calling for promotion of bilateral ties in all fields.

Iran will never forget China's help amid unilateral Western sanctions, Larijani said, urging both countries to remove certain obstacles on the way of boosting bilateral ties through dialogue.


Iran's Basij forces will tomorrow begin massive "Beytul Mugeddes" military drills in the country, deputy Basij commander, Colonel Nosratollah Saif said, IRNA news agency reported.

He said the exercises will be held in 10 steps, with 2-3 specific exercises executed each day, adding that the drills will be held in 5 provinces of Iran.

Saif added that "Asura", "Kovser", "Al-Zahra" and "Beytul Mugeddes" battalions will be participating in the drills.

Previously, Iran held the "Beytul Mugeddes" exercises in January 2013.


At the negotiations in Vienna between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Iranian diplomats proposed a new approach according to which Tehran is ready to go for a substantial simplification of the conditions for the access of international experts to its nuclear facilities, ITAR-TASS reported on Wednesday citing a source familiar with the course of consultations.


Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem confirmed Tuesday to UN-Arab League envoy Lakhdar Brahimi that the Syrian government will attend talks in Geneva aimed at ending the country's 31-month conflict, dpa reporterd.

Al-Moallem told Brahimi that Syria would take part in the talks "on the basis of the Syrian people's exclusive right to decide upon their political future and choosing their leadership, rejecting any form of foreign interference," state television reported.

No date has been set for the conference, but the Arab League has said it might take place on November 23-24.

Nechirvan Barzani, the prime minister of Iraq's Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), is coming to Turkey on Thursday, a visit that follows a recent high-level visit from the central administration of Iraq to Turkey, which signaled a thaw in strained relations with Baghdad Today`s Zaman reported .

According to diplomatic sources, Barzani, who paid his last visit to Turkey in late July, is visiting Ankara on Thursday upon an invitation from Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to meet with top government officials, including Erdogan.


Israel's Foreign Ministry will hold a unique inter-ministerial workshop in Tbilisi on October 30-31.

Head of the Department for the Central Europe and Eurasia Anna Azari, Israeli ambassadors in Tbilisi, Baku, Astana and Ashgabat, diplomats and experts on the South Caucasus and Central Asia - around 20 people will attend the event.

The purpose of the event is to allow diplomats to get acquainted with the Caspian region, as well as with the countries bordering with Iran and China.

The ambassadors will deliver speech.


Israel freed 26 Palestinian prisoners on Wednesday, the second stage of a limited amnesty designed to help U.S.-sponsored peace talks that have been dogged by divisions on both sides, Reuters reported.

The inmates, convicted of murder in the killing of Israelis before or just after interim accords were signed two decades ago, were bussed from jail at midnight to welcoming parties in the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip.


Georgian Foreign Minister Maia Pandzhikidze took part in the regional assembly of the Israeli Foreign Ministry.

Pandzhikidze addressed the assembly participants in connection with the Georgian-Israeli relations. He stressed the importance of developing and intensifying the cooperation between the two countries in various spheres and also spoke about the current processes and priorities of Georgia's foreign policy.

The representatives of the Israeli diplomatic missions in the region and experts attended the assembly in Tbilisi.
