As the day of local election in Turkey is approaching, many female organizations throughout a country started to pay closer attention to the presence in the lists of candidates from different political parties of representatives of fair sex. According to the lists published, at the coming elections on the 30th of March there will be quite little women among candidates from political parties. According to the opinion of female organizations, this factor is an extra evidence of gender inequality, existing in Turkey.


Turkish families with three or more children will be exempt from paying taxes, Turkish Finance Minister Mehmet Shimshek said during a debate on the 2014 state budget in the country's Parliament, Sabah newspaper reported on Wednesday.

According to the publication, Turkey's budget for the next year allocated 78.5 billion lira for education and 30.4 billion lira for social assistance to low-income families.

Earlier, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan called for increasing the birth rate in the country.


Turkish Interior Minister Muammer Guler has said a new agency will be created in the security services included in the Interior Ministry, Anadolu agency reported.

According to Guler the new agency will create conditions allowing some 30,000 policemen in the security services to hold more important positions.

The minister noted that the new agency will benefit from the police experience in preventing negative cases.


On Tuesday Turkish Security Forces carried out a large scale operation against drug traffickers in the Eastern Province of Diyarbekir, Anadolu agency reported.

According to the statement, 24 teams from the Turkish Gendarmerie and three units from the Anti-Drug department of the Secretariat General on Turkey's security participated in the operation. Three helicopters were also involved.

It is reported the operation is directed against drug traffickers connected with the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party.


Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu met Sept.10 with the families of two Turkish pilots kidnapped last month in Beirut in a case linked to the Syrian conflict Hurriyetdailynews reported.

After the meeting, İrfan Medet Akpinar, brother of kidnapped pilot Murat Akpinar, said the minister shared up-to-date information about the situation of the pilots.


The new wave of arrests in connection with recent events in Gezi Park has been launched in five provinces of Turkey, Sabah newspaper reported on Tuesday.

According to the newspaper, Turkey's Security Service representatives conducted operations in the provinces of Ankara, Izmir, Samsun, Mersin and Tunceli resulting in the arrest of ten people.

Detainment operations are continuing.

As reported earlier, 944 people were arrested during the protests in Turkey.

Turkey is not going to ban social media, deputy head of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), Huseyin Chelik said on Wednesday, Anadolu Agency reported.

According to him, the purpose of government is amendment of the legislation on social media using practise in the countries of Western Europe and the EU.

Chelik also noted that there was found 105 Internet sites that disseminate unconfirmed information about the events in Gezi park.

Until today there was found 262 fake twitter profile, calling the people to riot, deputy head of the ruling party added.


The number of arrested during the protests in Ankara reached one hundred people, TRT Haber channel reported on Monday.

The protesters blocked the main roads in the capital; in response the police began to disperse the demonstrators.

According to the channel, some members of the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) also participated in the protests.

Protests have been continuing in Turkey for more than twenty days. According to the representatives of the authorities, the protests already have anti-government character.


The Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology together with the Ministry of Health of Turkey are preparing a project to increase investment in the sector of production of medicaments and medical devices, Zaman newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Under the program it is planned to produce in Turkey first of all those drugs for which there is shortage in the domestic market and those which are very expensive.
