Iraqi Embassy in Azerbaijan invites Azerbaijani airlines to open a representative office in Iraq to carry out direct flights between the two countries, Iraqi Ambassador to Azerbaijan Haydar al-Barrak told Trend on Wednesday.

"Iraqi airlines announced about a need to open a representative office of Azerbaijan Airlines in Iraq to carry out direct flights between the two countries. Iraq's relations with Turkey cannot be considered good and Baghdad would like to improve them under certain conditions, Anadolu agency quotes Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, as saying.

"Iraq seeks to improve relations with Turkey, provided that Ankara will not intervene in Iraq's affairs and not violate our air borders," al-Maliki said.

Al-Maliki said the fact that a person for whom the Iraqi government has made an arrest warrant is hiding in Turkey, harms relations between the two countries.

Iraq should not be influenced by Western anti-Iranian policy, Iranian Foreign Ministry's spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said today at a press conference in Tehran, ISNA reported.

Mehmanparast added that the search of two Iranian planes over the past month had proved that no weapons were aboard Syria-bound Iranian flights.

A Western intelligence report in September showed that Iran has been using civilian aircraft to fly military personnel and large quantities of weapons almost daily through Iraqi airspace to aid President Bashar Assad's government in its fight against rebels.

Iraq's profits will increase twice within three subsequent years as a result of energy sector development in the country, Aswat Al-Iraq Agency quoted Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Hussain al-Shahristani as saying.

He said oil sector's share in increasing the country's profits will hit 80 percent of total profits by 2015.

Al-Shahristani also said Iraq intends to increase oil production up to 5-6 million barrels per day by 2015, and oil production volume will hit 9-10 million barrels per day by 2020, stressing that now oil production in Iraq is 3.4 million barrels per day.

Iraq has the potential to become a "game-changer" for world oil markets in the coming decades provided that long-term strategies and a stable political and economic framework are guaranteed, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said Tuesday, reported dpa.

In a report released in London, the Paris-based agency said that Iraq could make "by far the largest contribution to global oil supply growth over the coming decades" and play a key role in global energy supplies.

Head of the Kurdistan Autonomy of Iraq Massoud Barzani called on Ankara to normalize relations with Baghdad, the administration's official website reported.

"Turkey is an important country at the international level, and we hope that its relations with Iraq will be normalized soon," Barzani said.

According to the head of the Kurdish administration, at present there are a lot of problems in the region, but they should be solved peacefully.
