The Islamic Republic of Iran and South Korea will soon sign an agreement to further boost trade ties and facilitate interaction between the capital markets of the two Asian countries, Press TV reported.

Senior officials of the Central Securities Depository of Iran (CSDI) and the Korea Securities Depository (KSD) will sign off on a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on their business cooperation on September 15.

According to the agreement, Iranian and South Korean depositories will be able to buy and sell long-term debt- or equity-backed securities in each other's capital markets.


Twelve civil and engineering projects including Khazar steel factory, new unit of Khazar tile production complex, a hospital, and 16,100 Mehr Housing Units were officially inaugurated on Tuesday in the northern province of Gilan, IRIB News reported.

The Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad attended the inauguration ceremonies.

The projects came on stream at the cost of 9,038 billion rials (some 273.8 million dollars).

By inauguration of the projects some 379 direct and 12,000 indirect job opportunities were created.


Third harvest of tea has stopped by farmers, head of the Iranian association of tea farmers Iraj Hoosemi said, Jahanesanat daily reported.

Failure of preparation works before production season due to the poverty of farmers and drought led to stopping third harvest of green tea leaf, he said.

"Collected green tea leaf amount during first harvest was acceptable, but it was lesser compared to previous years," Hoosemi added.

Collected green tea leaf volume decreased by 40 percent compared to last year's second harvest.


World powers expressed hope on Tuesday of resuming negotiations with Iran over its disputed nuclear program "as soon as possible" but gave no indication of a possible date for any new talks, Reuters reported.

Senior diplomats from the six countries negotiating with Tehran - the United States, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany - met in Brussels to map out plans for diplomacy following the June 14 presidential election in Iran.


Iranian opposition leader Mehdi Karroubi may be released in the near future, ISNA quoted Rasoul Montajabnia, the vice president of the Etemad Melli political party as saying.

Karroubi, who has been under house arrest after he protested the results of 2009 presidential election, is the president of the Etemad Melli political party.

Some measures have been taken towards releasing Karroubi, Montajabnia said. He also added that certainly these measures will bear fruit and Karroubi will resume activity in the political party.


The administration of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has paid 1,060 billion rials (about $42.7 billion based on the Tehran Forex Center's USD exchange rate of 24,800 rials) in cash subsidies, ISNA reported.

The 29th cash subsidy payment was deposited to banking accounts of breadwinners of families last night.

The incumbency of president Ahmadinejad will be terminated in August.

The subsidy reform plan pays out 455,000 rials (about $37) to every Iranian, while eliminating subsidies for fuels and some commodities.

Nearly 74.5 million Iranians receive cash subsidies.


An earthquake measuring 3.9 on Richter scale jolted Kadkan county of Torbat-e-Heydariyeh city in Khorasan Razavi province on Monday afternoon, IRNA reported.

According to the report of seismography center affiliated to Tehran University Geophysics Institute, the tremor occurred at 16:25 hours local time ( 11:55 hours GMT) and its epicenter was at 35.47 degrees latitude and 58.83 degrees longitude.

There is no immediate report on possible damage.


The Central Bank of Iran has announced that the inflation rate for the 12-month period ended in the third Iranian calendar month of Khordad (June 21, 2013) compared to the same period in the previous year hit 35.9 percent, the Mehr News Agency reported.

Meanwhile the Statistical Centre of Iran has put the inflation rate for the mentioned period of time at 32.6 percent.

The centre has announced that the point-to-point inflation rate in the month of Khordad hit 41.2 percent.


Iran will boost its maritime passenger fleet through adding 16 new vessels in the next Iranian calendar year which begins on March 21, 2014, IRIB quoted managing director of the Association of Iranian Maritime Cooperatives Ahmad Hashemi as saying.

A vessel, with a capacity to carry 120 passengers will be launched soon on the Bandarabbas-Qeshm route, he added.

The vessel has been built at a cost of $950 million, he noted.

The 16 new vessels projected to be built, will have the capacity to carry 100-150 passengers he said, adding they will each cost $1-1.7 million.


Iran has began a naval exercise in the Caspian Sea dubbed "Sustainable Security 2013".

According to commanders, the five-day drill is designed to protect naval routes, provide security for merchant ships and tankers and prepare military and port facilities for possible threats, the Fars News Agency reported.

The drill stretches across the port cities of Astara, Noshahr, Anzali, and Amir Abad.

The exercise is meant to convey a message of peace and friendship to other countries and is being carried out in cooperation with the naval forces of Gilan and Mazandaran provinces.
