Iranian president Hassan Rouhani said that he did not agree or a short meeting with Barack Obama, although prior to his going to NY, the U.S. officials contacted him 5 times, asking for a meeting with Obama, Tasnim news agency reported.

"They asked for a meeting with Barack Obama, but I refused," Rouhani told journalists after the meeting of cabinet of ministers.

Rouhani went on to say that during his visit to New York, he wanted to explain the rights of Iranian people and say that sanctions against Iran are illegal.


Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says the Group of 77 (G-77) and the Non-aligned Movement (NAM) can contribute significantly to international equations, Iranian Press TV reported.

"In the current global situation, groups like the G-77 and NAM can play a constructive role in global equations," Rouhani said in a Tuesday meeting with Fijian Prime Minister Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama on the sidelines of the 68th annual session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Iran currently holds the rotating presidency of NAM, while Fiji chairs the G-77.


Iran presented new, domestically made air-launch type anti-ship and anti-aircraft missiles "Qader" and "Nasr", IRIB News reported.

The ceremony took place in presence of Iranian defense minister Hossein Deghan, who said that such missiles are manufactured in Iran for the first time.

He went on to note that "Qader" missiles are capable of hitting enemy aircrafts within the 200 km range, while Nasr missiles have a 35 km range.


At the UN General Assembly in New York, the foreign ministers of Russia and Iran Sergei Lavrov and Mohammad Javad Zarif discussed the further promotion of a dialogue of the "Six" on the Iranian nuclear program, as well as chemical weapons in Syria, RIA Novosti reported with reference to the Russian Foreign Ministry.

As EU foreign relations chief Catherine Ashton told earlier, this week the Iranian Foreign Minister will meet with the "Six" International Mediators on the settlement of the Iranian nuclear program.


Foreign Secretary William Hague has held his first meeting with his Iranian counterpart Mohammed Javad Zarif since President Hassan Rouhani was elected, BBC reported.

Iran's car production has stood at 359,670 during the first half of the 2013 which indicates a fall by 38.5 percent compared to the same period of the last year, Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d'Automobiles(OICA) reported.

According to the report, Iran ranked 21th in the world in terms of car production during the period.

The country has produced some 310,600 cars and 49,070 commercial vehicles during the first six months of the 2013.


Iran will sell its tea harvest which has been stored for 15 years in warehouses to India, Sri Lanka, Turkey, and the Netherlands, ISNA quoted Iran's tea organization head Ali Mohrer as saying.

The tea products, which have been stored since 1990s, will be sold at 10,000-20,000 rials (400-800 cents) per kilogram, he added.

Some 30,000 tons of tea is produced in Iran per year, of which 7,500 tons is consumed in the domestic market.


Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has met with his Dutch, Slovakian and Croatian counterparts on the sidelines on the 68th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York City, Press TV reported.

In separate meetings at the UN Headquarters on Monday, Zarif discussed bilateral relations as well as issues of international importance with the foreign ministers of the Netherlands, Croatia and Slovakia.

During the meeting with Dutch Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans, Zarif said Iran and the Netherlands enjoy deep historical relations.


Iranian parliament speaker Ali Larijani held phone talks with his Syrian counterpart Mohammad Jihad al-Laham, IRIB News reported.

During the talks, Larijani noted that both Syrian people and country's government managed to defend themselves from outside enemies and terrorist groups in the country, and the situation in the country is changing for the better.

Iranian speaker said that in order to help Syria solve the existing problems, Iran is carring out necessary negotiations with Iraqi and Turkish parliamentary speakers.


Relations between Iranian and Azerbaijani border guard services are at high level, Commander of Iranian Border Guard Hussein Zulfugari told Trend on Tuesday.

"Relations between borders guard of the two countries are at high level. I pay a visit to Azerbaijan for the third time. As a result of efforts of border guards, no security problems were observed on Azerbaijani-Iranian border during this period. Therefore, Iranian-Azerbaijani borders are known as the borders of friendship and peace," the Iranian Commander said.
