Turkey will take part in the development of oil fields in Afghanistan, Turkey's Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz said, Anadolu agency reported on Monday.

According to him, the Afghan government has approved the participation of Turkish Petroleum Company (TPAO) in the development of the country's oilfields.

Earlier, Afghan Minister of Mines and Petroleum Wahidullah Shahrani told Trend that currently, six oil and gas fields have been discovered in Afghanistan, and the work is still continuing at some of these fields.


The army is engaged in ensuring security of foreign investments in Afghanistan. Currently, national forces carry out this process by 80 percent, Minister of Mines and Petroleum of the Republic of Afghanistan Wahidullah Shahrani said in an interview with Trend.

"Ensuring the security will fully pass from international to national forces by late 2014," the minister said. "We thank all NATO member states. They have been rendering technical and financial assistance to the Afghan National Army to improve combat capability for a long time."


Azerbaijan will likely participate in the construction of small refineries in Afghanistan, Minister of Industry and Energy Natig Aliyev said during a meeting with the delegation led by Afghanistan's Minister of Mines Wahidullah Shahrani.

According to Aliyev, currently Afghanistan carries out good work on restoring its economy and Azerbaijan is ready to participate in these processes.

"Relations between the two countries should not be confined to trade. We should develop new spheres of cooperation and increase investments," Aliyev said.


Afghanistan has announced the details of the gas agreement with Turkmenistan, signed within the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project in Ashgabat last week.

This contract was signed between Afghan Gas and Turkmen Gas companies and the Ministries of Mines and Petroleum of Afghanistan and Turkmenistan, the Afghan Foreign Ministry said today.

The signing of this contract is considered as a fundamental and practical step towards implementing the TAPI Project through which Afghanistan will address its gas needs for the next 30 years, the statement said.


A ceremony for laying the Atamyrat-Ymamnazar-Akina section within the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan -Tajikistan international railway project was held in the Lebap region of Turkmenistan with participation of the Presidents of the three countries - Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan - Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Hamid Karzai and Emomoli Rahmon on Wednesday, according to the Turkmen government.


Tajikistan and Great Britain signed an intergovernmental agreement on cargo transportation to Afghanistan through the territory of Tajikistan on Thursday, KyrTAG reported.

The document was signed by Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi and UK Ambassador to Tajikistan Robin Jeremy Ord-Smith.

The document envisages the plan of withdrawing UK military equipment and personnel from Afghanistan through Tajikistan's territory.


The issue of using the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway for the transit of goods from Afghanistan is under consideration, Georgian State Minister for European Integration Alexi Petriashvili said at a press conference on Friday. He was commenting on the fact that the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway can be used to transit goods and ISAF forces from Afghanistan.


President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov are expected to sign the trilateral framework agreement on Wednesday following the talks in Ashgabat, CA-News reported with the referrence to Tajik Transport Ministry.

The agreement will defines the terms of construction of the railway between Ashgabat and Dushanbe through Afghanistan. The talks are planned upon arrival of Karzai and Rahmon in Ashgabat.

Iran will be building a pipeline to export oil to Afghanistan, Head of the Office of the Campaign against Smuggling Goods and Foreign Currency, Fada Hossein Maleki said, Shana reported.

Maleki noted that upon the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers, the pipeline to Afghanistan will be built from Iran's Dogharoon city (Masshad province) to Afghan city of Eslam Qaleh (Herat province).

"The construction of such pipeline will reduce possibility of fuel products smuggling, and aside from that, the commission for transition will be much lower," Maleki noted.
