A group of investors from China's Hubei province has paid a visit to Iran's East Azarbaijan province, discussing ways to boost cooperation in power and petrochemical sectors, the YJC reported.

Ahamd Alirezabeigi, the governor general of Iran's northwestern East Azerbaijan province, emphasized the importance of boosting cooperation between private sectors as a means to enhance economic ties between the two countries.

There is a good potential for cooperation in the expansion of power plants and the reuse of petrochemical waste, the official said.

China's average daily crude imports from Iran jumped nearly 50 percent in May from the previous month, back around levels before sanctions were slapped on the Middle Eastern country over its disputed nuclear programme two years ago, Reuters reported.

The jump in China's imports of Iranian crude to 555,557 barrels per day (bpd) came just before the United States renewed the country's waiver on U.S. sanctions aimed at cutting off Iran's oil revenues and bringing it to the negotiating table.

The governments of China and Costa Rica signed Monday a series of economic and coorperation agreements during the visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping in the Central American country, dpa reported.

"Relations between our two nations are still young, but they are intensive and fruitful," Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla said after meeting with Xi in San Jose.

Costa Rica recognized Taiwan rather than China until 2007 but then switched.

At least 43 people were killed when a fire swept through a poultry processing plant in north-eastern China's Jilin province Monday, dpa reported according to state media.

The fire broke out just after 6 am in a slaughterhouse at the Jilin Baoyuan Poultry Company in Mishazi township, China Central Television said.

Firefighters were still trying to put out the blaze by mid-morning, reports said.

It was not immediately clear if other workers at the plant were missing.

The death toll rose to 112, with others believed missing, after an explosion and fire on Monday at a poultry processing plant in north-eastern China's Jilin province, dpa reported.

At least 30 others were injured after fire broke out around 6 am (2200 GMT Sunday) in a slaughterhouse at the Jilin Baoyuan Poultry Company in Mishazi township, the provincial government said.
