Uzbekistan intends to sign about 100 contracts with China; their total cost will be about $20 billion. Head of the presidential press service Asad Khojayev reported the news on May 10. According to him, this will happen within the framework of the three-day official visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Beijing on May 11. Asad Khojayev stressed that the figures were based on the preliminary information.

 

Worth recalling, during his visit to Moscow in April 2017, Mirziyoyev signed about 50 agreements totaling approximately $15 billion.

A scientific and practical republican conference devoted to the topic “Uzbekistan's Export Potential: Prospects and Necessary Growth Conditions” was held in Tashkent. It was organized by the Banking and Finance Academy. As noted during the event, the analysis of the structure of Uzbek exports shows the changes towards its diversification. For example, in 1990, the export of cotton fiber amounted to 60 percent of the total share of exports. In 2016, this indicator decreased to 5.1 percent. In other words, there was an almost 12-fold drop.

The Japanese companies Marubeni Utilite Services and Kawasaki Heavy Industries have launched a modernization project for the Ferghana thermal power plant. According to representatives of Uzbekenergo, the project envisages introducing 17 MW high-efficiency cogeneration units at the TPP, and 7 MW units at the Ferghana boiler house RK-3. The cost of the project is $83.6 million. Its funding is provided through grants totaling $49.5 million from NEDO (the Japanese Organization for Development of New Industrial and Energy Technologies), and Uzbekenergo's own funds.

The new plant produces about 200 kinds of cosmetics by Korean technologies under the La Core brand; its annual production volume is up to 3 million units. In Uzbekistan, seven new free economic zones were created simultaneously by presidential decree of Shavkat Mirziyoyev. These zones will specialize in the cultivation of plant medicinal raw materials in special environmental conditions; in addition, they will be engaged in the processing of such materials. These zones will start functioning in the near future under the following names: Zomin Pharm, Nukus Pharm, Sirdaryo Pharm, Kosonso Pharm, Bustonlik Pharm, Boysun Pharm and Parkent Pharm.
