The Turkmen national army receives the most modern equipment and this in turn steadily raises the level of professional military personnel, the Turkmen president and commander in chief of the armed forces Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at a meeting of the State Safety Council, the Turkmen government said today.

The president stressed that, implementing the status of permanent neutrality delegated by the community of nations, Turkmenistan in practice realises its peacekeeping potential, making positive initiatives to resolve the urgent issues concerning all progressive mankind.

Turkmenistan has ensured the reliable protection of its land and sea borders, Turkmen President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov said.

The issue of creating Turkmenistan's own fleet, which now has an important and responsible task to ensure the protection of the country's borders on the Caspian Sea, was raised in August 2009.

A government commission, chaired by the President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, has held a meeting over removal of the effects of emergency situation caused by the ignition of fireworks at warehouses near the city of Abadan on July 7, the press service of the Turkmen government reported.

A report was presented to the head of state informing about the measures taken to repair damaged buildings and life support systems in areas nearby to the emergency scene.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on Thursday chaired a joint meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers and the State Security Council of Turkmenistan that examined the situation over ignition and explosion of pyrotechnic materials. Pyrotechnics were intended for fireworks and stored in special warehouses in the outskirts of the city of Abadan, says a statement by Turkmen Foreign Ministry that was distributed by the country's embassy in Azerbaijan.
