Ashgabat has hosted a scientific-practical conference on diets during childhood obesity, diabetes, as well as methods of treatment of these diseases. The event was organized by the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of the country, which was assisted by the staff of the Country Office of the World Health Organization. In addition, the conference participants also examined a physical activity strategy for the European Region, and a new action plan in the field of food products for the period 2015-2020.



In 2015, the medical industry of Turkmenistan showed a 38 percent growth as compared to the year 2014. According to experts, this growth rate can be maintained until the end of 2016. This is possible thanks to the efficient development of enterprises related to the “Turkmendermansenagat” group, which is the largest manufacturer of medical devices in the country. In terms of money, the company's 2015 production volume is about 2.4 times higher than it was in 2011.



An international exhibition "Health-2015", which is timed to the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the state program “Saglyk” (in translation - "Health"), began its work in the Exhibition Center of Ashgabat. In addition, this year the event also is tied to the Day of Health and Medical Industry of the Republic, which is celebrated annually on July21. The exhibition this year is organized jointly by the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan and the Chamber of Commerce of the country.



The international conference and exhibition “Saglyk 2014” was opened the capital of Turkmenistan, the event being confined to the Day of Medical Industry and Health. The activities were organized by the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce of the republic. The exhibition “Health 2014” (that is the name of the event translated into English) was attended by representatives of 41 countries.



A delegation of Turkmenistan composed of health specialists from the Ashgabat-based National AIDS Prevention Center and three provincial AIDS centers has recently visited Kazakhstan to learn the experience and practices on HIV coordination, interagency cooperation as well as collection, analysis and use of HIV data, UNDP press-office reported on Monday.


Ashgabat, with the support of UN Children's Fund (UNICEF), hosted a meeting of interagency group of the national program for early childhood development (ECD), UNICEF said on Tuesday.

The event, attended by international experts, discussed the practical plan of action. As stated in the information, the meeting allowed to assess the short- and long-term steps at the political, institutional and societal levels, which are necessary for the development of the child before birth and up to seven years.


President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has approved the state programme of public health development for 2012-2016, an official Turkmen source said.

The document is aimed at accelerating development of the public health system, improving the level of health services, deep modernisation and creating a set of new and modern medical facilities.


The Institute of International Relations under the Turkmen Foreign Ministry and regional office of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Central Asia signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Ashgabat, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported on Friday.

This memorandum should strengthen cooperation which started in 2009 and anticipates a qualitatively new approach to the further development of ties on a bilateral and multilateral basis taking into consideration the curriculum of the Institute and national priorities.


Turkmenistan has sent humanitarian aid with textile products and flour for the population of the Turkish Van Province, who suffered from the recent devastating earthquake.

According to the Turkmen government, Turkish officials, who met the humanitarian aid convoy from Ashgabat at Erzurum Airport, expressed 'sincere gratitude to Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov and the Turkmen people for a goodwill gesture'.


A delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) headed by regional representative Gulya Kadar is in Ashgabat.

The delegation has met with members of the parliament, ministries, departments, and representatives of the Turkmen Red Crescent Society.

The delegation discussed the working draft of the legislative document to provide a legal basis for international assistance in emergency situations.
