The capital of Turkmenistan is hosting the Culture Week 2017, which is timed to coincide with the Day of the Workers of Culture and Art. This event was held for the first time in 2013, in the territory of the National Tourist Zone “Avaza.” Then it was gradually introduced in other regions of the country, presenting all the diversity of the historical and cultural heritage of the regions.


Turkmenistan has celebrated the 72nd anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The main events in the framework of the celebration were held in the territory of the memorial complex “Halk hakydasy” (People's Memory) in Ashgabat. There took place the ceremony of laying flowers to the monument “Baky şöhrat” (Eternal Glory), which commemorates the Turkmen soldiers killed in the Great Patriotic War.


In the near future, the first golf club in Turkmenistan will be opened in the southwestern part of Ashgabat. It will be located in a new park on an area of 70 hectares. The park itself has a total area of about 630 hectares, and its zone will stretch from the Tehran street of to the Atamurat Niyazov prospect. According to the local media, considering the uniqueness of the terrain, it's planned to use the most modern design and architectural-planning solutions in the park.



The Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages has held a linguistic contest for students. This event has been held annually for several years. The recent contest was participated by experts in foreign languages who arrived from all universities of the country. This time, the students competed with each other not only in the knowledge of the traditional Russian and English languages; they also demonstrated their levels of knowledge of Chinese and Japanese.


On May 29, Turkmenistan celebrated a traditional holiday – the Day of Turkmen Carpet, which dates back to 1992. On this day, towns and cities in all regions host concerts, mass celebrations, festive exhibition of carpets and rugs. People honor the most skilled carpet weavers and award them with state awards and valuable gifts on behalf of the president of Turkmenistan. The main events of this festival were the Ashgabat-based International Exhibition of Turkmen Carpets, and the Sixteenth Conference of the World Association of Connoisseurs of Turkmen Carpets.



On April 24, Turkmenistan celebrated the traditional national Holiday of Akhal-Teke Horses. It is dedicated to a breed of riding horses that was created in the country. Nowadays it is considered one of the most beautiful and oldest in the world, as its emergence dates back to about 5,000 years ago. The Horse Festival is celebrated every year on the last Sunday of April. It includes many different activities, their scale comparable with the main national holiday of Turkmenistan – the Independence Day.



Turkmenistan is carrying out a month-long sports and health campaign “Health and Happiness,” which is dedicated to the World Day of Health. As reported by local media, this campaign includes mass sports, cultural and socio-political events, competitions in national games and in various sports to be held in the capital of the country and in the provinces. In addition, there will be held concerts and other mass actions.



In Ashgabat, the D. Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages held a seminar on “Scientific and methodological basis of education in secondary schools.” The event was dedicated to the programs on teaching of the Chinese and Japanese languages to 5-12 grade students of Turkmen secondary educational institutions. The seminar was participated by teachers from the capital and provinces, as well as teachers from China and India. In the long term, Ashgabat will witness a series of similar educational seminars during 2016.



On December 12, Turkmenistan celebrated the 20th anniversary of the country's status of permanent neutrality, which is enshrined in the constitution and confirmed by international documents. The main celebrations were held in the capital Ashgabat.


The International scientific conference entitled "Dialogue of Cultures on the Silk Road" is held in the capital of Turkmenistan. The forum, which will last for three days, is attended by about 70 scientists and experts, who arrived in Ashgabat from 37 countries. The organizers of the event are the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan jointly with the administration of Dashoguz region.
