Tajikistan imported about 58,200 tons of liquefied gas during the four years of the year, Avesta.Tj reported on Monday.

The major seller of the fuel to Tajikistan is Kazakhstan.

In April the import of the liquefied gas amounted to 16,400 tons, decreasing by

15,600 compared to March, 2013.

Over 40 percent of automobiles in the country use liquefied gas as a fuel due to high prices for gasoline in the country.

Iran and Tajikistan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to complete a strategic tunnel in the Central Asian country, Fars News reported.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, the spokesperson for the lower house of Tajikistan's parliament Muhammadato Sultanov said the $3bln agreement was signed by the two countries to complete the project also known as Istiqlol (independence) tunnel.

He added that the Tajik minister of transport, Nizom Hakimov, has briefed the Tajik lawmakers about the project and presented them with the relevant documents.

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon met with the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission's head Jonathan Dunn on Monday in Dushanbe, Avesta.tj reported on Tuesday.

The sides discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation aimed at supporting social and economic development of Tajikistan, as well as other actual issues.

During the meeting they stressed that economic reforms in Tajikistan are carried out with accordance to the IMF recommendations taking into account domestic and regional situation.

Tajikistan and Iran may sign an agreement in late March on the construction of the Ayni hydroelectric power station on the Zarafshan River in Tajikistan during the visit of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Dushanbe, Fars news agency reported on Monday, citing a diplomatic source.

Iranian experts have developed a feasibility study for the project. The HPP's capacity will be 240 megawatts.

Previously, Sangtuda-2 was built with the assistance of Iran on the Vakhsh River in Tajikistan. Its launch at full capacity is scheduled for this week.

According to the operative data of the Tajik Finance Ministry, the total amount of Tajikistan's state budget in January 2013 was 702.8 somoni (over $146.4 million), or 1.4 per cent from the detail plan, Avesta reported.

The total amount of the state budget in 2012 amounted to over 9.3 billion somoni and in particular, tax revenues amounted to more than 7.1 billion somoni.

Non-tax revenues in total revenues made up seven per cent, or 678.7 million somoni.

The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) intends allocate a soft loan of $130 million for infrastructure projects in Tajikistan, CA-News reported on Tuesday.

Board Chairman Igor Finogenov made this statement during his meeting with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe on Tuesday.

According to the report, the EDB has expressed interest in projects in the spheres such as energy, agriculture, agro-processing, transport construction, tourism and other infrastructure projects.

Tajikistan increased coal production by more than twice in January 2013 compared to the same period of last year, Asia-Plus reported on Monday with reference to the Energy and Industry Ministry of Tajikistan.

According to the statement, over 15,000 tons of coal was produced in January 2013, which is 8,000 tons more than in January 2012.

The amount of coal sales in the country last month was about 13,700 tons, or 6,800 tons more compared to the same period of 2012.

Russia and Tajikistan will discuss issues related to labor migration and abolition of export duty on light oil products imposed by Russia towards Tajikistan, CA-News reported with reference to diplomatic sources on Friday.

According to the report, the negotiations will be held during the brief visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to Tajikistan, which is scheduled for Jan.16.

Lavrov plans to hold talks with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi, the report says.
