A total of 43,845 passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were sold by the official dealers in Kazakhstan in 2016, which is 54 percent less than the 2015 result. In value terms, the volume of sales decreased by 47 percent to $869.9 million. As reported by the press-service of “KazAvtoProm” (the Union of Kazakhstan's automotive industry), about three-quarters of the total number of cars sold in 2016 (namely, 32,959 units) accounted for products of foreign manufacturers. On the other hand, 10,886 buyers opted for products of Kazakhstan's car industry.

In 2016, Kazakhstan reduced oil production by 1.4 percent as compared with 2015, to the level of 65.577 million tons. The Statistical Committee of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic published this information on January 13. The current drop in oil production in the country is associated with a number of macroeconomic factors, as well as with the obsolescence of the existing infrastructure. Worth noting, more than half of the oil wells in the fields in the western regions of Kazakhstan have been in operation for more than 20 years; therefore, they require hardware upgrades.

Chairman of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan Karim Masimov, who is also the head of the republic's Anti-Terrorist Center, canceled the “yellow” level of terrorist threat that had been introduced in the country earlier. Worth recalling, this level was first introduced in Kazakhstan on June 6, 2016, the day after the Aktobe terrorist attack, in which eight people were killed and 23 were injured. The Kazakh security officials managed to kill 18 militants and detained another nine offenders.

To date, five countries consolidate roughly two-thirds of the total external debt of Kazakhstan. They are the US, China, Britain, France and the Netherlands. In accordance with the published data for Q3 2016, the debt portfolio in these countries increased to $109.6 billion, or by 13.6 percent. As noted, a little less than 64 percent of Kazakhstan's external debt to these five largest borrowers account for inter-company debts in the form of direct investment.

It was chaired by Tamara Duysenova, the Minister of the said department. In 2016, the volume of retail trade in Kazakhstan increased by 0.9 percent as compared to 2015, amounting to KZT7.66 trillion. On 13 January, the Statistics Committee of the Ministry of Economy reported the news, adding that the retail sale of all types of goods by trading enterprises increased by 3.4 percent as compared to the 2015 result. As for the volume of market trade and trade by individual entrepreneurs, it decreased by 1.9 percent during the reporting period.
