The city of Petropavlovsk (Northern Kazakhstan) has for the first time hosted the festival of koumiss “Kymyzfest,” as reported by local mass media. The organizer of this event was the public youth association “Kyzylzhar Zhastary.” According to its chairman, Yerlik Mukhamedzhanov, the goal of the event is to present the rich culture of the region in order to attract tourists. The symbol of “Kymyzfest” was a horse; an equestrian carnival parade took place within the framework of the festival.

On June 23, the EBRD (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development) signed two agreements providing for loans to one of the commercial banks of Kazakhstan, KassaNova, and for micro-financing of the KMF organization, in the amount of $11 million each. Kazakhstan intends to build a gas power plant of a new type. This opportunity is currently being studied by the Eurasian Resource Group (ERG). On June 22, the upper chamber of the Kazakh parliament (the Senate) approved the draft law “On Amendments and Additions to Some Legislative Acts of Kazakhstan Concerning the Issues of Their Compliance with the Constitution of the Country” in the first reading. This document provides for the possibility of deprivation of citizenship as a punishment for committing particularly serious crimes, including terrorism-related ones. The purpose of the draft law is to bring the current legislative acts in line with the recent amendments to the republic's constitution.
