Agreement On The RF Joint Military Base In Kyrgyzstan Entered Into Force

On January 29, there came into force the agreement on the status and conditions of stay of the Russian joint military base in the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic, which had been signed between Russia and Kyrgyzstan in 2012. The validity of the agreement is 15 years, after which it will automatically be renewed for the next five years. The size and composition of the Russian contingent to be disposed at the base have not been disclosed.

Tajikistan To Cut Financing Of The Rogun Hydropower Plant's Construction In 2017

In 2017, Tajikistan will allocate TJS1.7 billion for construction of the Rogun hydroelectric power plant, which is TJS200 million less than in 2016. First Deputy Minister of Finance Jamshed Karimzoda announced the news on January 27, adding that all the allocated funds in the amount of TJS1.9 billion have been spent in full. As for the violations of the timing of the payment of wages to builders, the Finance Ministry representative suggested that these delays can occur in regard of the additional, previously agreed work.

Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Pankratov reported this information was in the Parliament of the Republic on January 27. In total, since 1992, Kyrgyzstan has signed 372 credit and grant agreements with donor countries and international financial institutions.
