Tajikistan annually loses more than a quarter of the total electricity generated due to idle discharges of water at the country's large hydropower plants (HPP). Earlier this week, the information has been reported by Usmonali Usmonzoda, Minister of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic.


According to Usmonzoda, in 2016, the losses will exceed 4 billion kilowatt-hours. The HPPs annually produce about 16.5 billion kilowatt-hours, which are not enough for Tajikistan: in winter, the electricity deficit is more than 2.5 billion kilowatt-hours.
